Reach Whirlpool Hollow
After obtaining the airship, fly to the sea northeast of Grandshelt’s desert and northeast of the Warrior of Light sanctum. Enter the whirlpool called Whirlpool Hollow.
Sephiroth must be defeated to obtain his Vision. This is not a three-question sanctum reward. A recommendation of around level 45 is a guide’s suggested preparation level, not a hard unlock requirement.
Save first. Bring sustained healing, enough MP and a revival plan before starting the challenge.
Read his battle states
| State or move | What to do |
|---|---|
| Masamune in Waiting | Attacks can trigger counters. Use the opportunity to defend, heal or prepare support rather than repeatedly triggering retaliation. |
| Before One-Winged Angel | There is an immunity phase. Do not assume zero damage means your equipment is broken. |
| One-Winged Angel | The party is reduced to 1 HP. Have Reraise prepared and recover in the next available action window. |
| Meteor pressure afterward | Keep the revival and healing plan active. Do not rely on an unverified fixed turn countdown. |
If you have completed Lid’s Mechabo upgrades, Mechamog Scan can add an exploitable weakness. It is a useful option, not a condition for entering the battle.
The later upgrade chain asks for three Mahadevas near Mysidia’s western island and three Malbodooms in western Gronoa, followed by returning to Verun. Finish the earlier Mechabo quests first.

The victory rewards include a Magicite Cryst and Sephiroth’s Vision. You can then select him in the Visions menu.
His Commando toolkit includes Jenova Cells, which uses Spirit to raise several attributes up to the listed 25% cap. Acquiring him does not automatically make him every character’s best choice; compare your current role and available skills in the pairing guide.
